We all had a great time on the trip to The Wicklow St Patricks’ Day Parade. A coach full plus many others who made their own way met up at The Woodenbridge Hotel In Co. Wicklow.
It was a bitterly cold day but everyone was in good humour and we set of at 9.30 on the 17th to take part in what would be a great parade. We initially played to Mass waking the town up with the skirl of the pipes and the beat of the drums. After mass we played down to the Grand Hotel where a lunch had been laid on by the ton council. 2.30 saw us setting of to the start point of the parade and at 3.30 we were eventually off. As we entered the main street it was absolutely packed with thousands lining the streets. There is no better feeling for a pipe band than to march past an enthusiastic and appreciative crowd. Hundreds of feet were tapping and hands clapping to the sound of The Garry Owen and St Patricks’ Day, the Wearing of The Green and Let Erin Remember amongst many of the tunes we played. It was a great time culminating with a mass band playing with the Wicklow Pipe Band and the presentation to Pipe Major Bill Grigg of the Best Cultural Award. Many thanks go to all those that were on the trip for their support and good humour, to Stenaline www.stenaline.co.uk for their sponsorship and to Asset Travel www.assettravel.co.uk for a great comfortable coach and their staff Mel and Barbara for great driving, patience and great humour. Enjoy the pictures which show us at work and at play and please visit our guestbook if you have any comments. |
